Samiksha Lingan
Second-Year Undergraduate, UC Berkeley
slingan@berkeley.edu
I am an undergraduate student completing a degree in Data Science at UC Berkeley, in the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (May 2028). I am pursuing a domain emphasis in Computational Methods in Molecular and Genomic Biology and a minor in Chemistry, and I hope to pursue further education and a career in computational biology or bioinformatics, particularly related to their applications in pharmaceutical development.
Academic and Professional Interests
Here are some things I’m interested in, in no particular order:
- Computer simulations and algorithms for protein/drug development and optimization
- Expanding access to STEM education (ask me about Berkeley ANova!)
- Ethical and responsible AI and overall technology use, especially in healthcare
Coursework
Data: 8: Foundations of Data Science, 89: Mathematical and Graphical Foundations of Probability, 100: Principles and Techniques of Data Science | Computer Science: 61A: Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs, 61B: Data Structures
Chemistry: 3A: Organic Chemistry I, 3B: Organic Chemistry II | Biology: 1A: General Biology
Other Classes I Enjoyed: Math 54: Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, IntegBi 35AC: Human Biological Variation, SAsian 131: Introduction to Contemporary Tamil Literature, Stat 33B: Introduction to Advanced Programming in R
Beyond Academics
Outside of class, I can be found researching what show to binge watch next, trying to find the best milk tea in Berkeley (Yi Fang is currently #1 on my ranking), and perfecting my primary Spotify playlist. I’m originally from Hayward — ask me about my favorite lookout spots in the Hayward hills and fun nature-y things to do in my hometown.
